KBC Response TO Guidepost’s Report
rev. 5/23/22
To our Church Ohana:
As an ordained Southern Baptist pastor, I join with countless brothers and sisters in the body of Christ who grieve over what has been revealed by Guidepost’s Report of Independent Investigation as reported by the Sexual Abuse Task Force appointed by the Messengers of the Southern Baptist Convention. My heart is broken for victims of sexual abuse and harassment who have been traumatized by heinous acts against them. I am distressed by the apparent lack of accountability of leaders and pastors involved with the findings of the report.
At Kona Baptist Church, we maintain a safe ministry environment for everyone as adopted in the 2021 revision of the Child Protection Policies involving awareness training, background checks, and references for all our staff working with youth and children. We foster a culture of accountability, transparency, and integrity that honors Christ and serves the community. The Church Ministry Leadership Team annually evaluates our policies and safeguards to insure a safe place for gospel ministry.
We stand with victims of sexual abuse and harassment and are distressed for their cruel treatment. Please pray for these victims and for all involved. As further details are reported we will respond as needed.
Blessings and Aloha,
~Pastor
